I first found my love of math in ruler and compass constructions, as it intersects with drawing, another passion of mine. Since then, I’ve been obsessed with math involving geometric and spatial intuition. When I am not doing math or drawing, I can be found reading, hiking, or playing tabletop games.
Ben Huenemann
I am an upcoming junior majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science, and I plan on pursuing a Ph.D. in Pure Mathematics. Understanding the underlying theorems and principles behind proofs is always fascinating, and I would love to make a career in it. Outside of classwork, I enjoy filling my free time with piano, biking, chess, and philosophy.
Jessica Soucie
As a mathematics and chemical engineering major, I am particularly interested in computational approaches to engineering problems. After graduation, I hope to attend graduate school in nuclear engineering.
Moses Samuelson-Lynn
I am a freshman pursuing an honors degree in Mathematics as well as a degree in German and a minor in Physics. My main interest is in pure mathematics, especially number theory, analysis, geometric graph theory, geometric group theory, and algebraic geometry. I hope to pursue research opportunities as an undergraduate and aim to earn a Ph.D. in pure mathematics with the goal of becoming a research professor.
Annie Giokas
I am pursuing an Honors degree in mathematics. My current interest is in commutative algebra, which I am planning to research this summer. The next step in my career after graduating from the University of Utah is to attend graduate school to continue my academic endeavors.
Michael Keyser
I am double majoring in Applied Mathematics and Computer Engineering. I participate in undergraduate research and will pursue a Master's Degree in Computer Engineering after graduation.
Sydney Kossin
I am currently in my senior year of the Mathematics Teaching Program, with a minor in Korean Studies. Following my student teaching during the 2021-2022 school year and after my scheduled graduation in April of 2022, I plan to pursue a career as a mathematics teacher in a Utah middle school or high school. I look forward to being able to give back to the community once I begin my teaching career.
Lia Smith
I am a Mathematics Major student with a love for calculus specifically. After I get my bachelor's degree, I plan to go to graduate school to pursue a Ph.D. in Mathematics. Outside of my studies, I love to read in my free time, and I am always looking for an opportunity to grow my personal library.
A. Nichols Crawford Taylor
I'm majoring in Applied Mathematics and Computer Engineering. I'm interested in using math to model social systems, control automated systems and autonomous robots, and so much more. Post-graduation, I'd like to take one of my engineering projects, develop into a full business, and eventually pursue graduate school.
Matthew Gordon
I’m a Mathematics and Economics major here at the University of Utah. I’m interested in probability/statistical theory and the application of this theory to real-world data. Recently, I’ve been interested in using dynamic-factor and Bayesian vector autoregressive models to measure GDP in real-time. My goal is to pursue graduate education in economics and mathematics and enter academia as a research professor.
Maya Wagner
I am a sophomore at the University of Utah, a candidate for graduation in Honors Applied Mathematics and Honors Physics, emphasizing Astronomy and Astrophysics. I do undergraduate research through the ACCESS Program with Dr. Daniel Wik. I plan to complete my undergraduate education and pursue a Ph.D. in Astrophysics or Mathematics.
Lela Feaster
I am a senior in Applied Mathematics. I am doing undergraduate research with Dr.Howe on shadows of cubic surfaces, and I intend to pursue a graduate degree in Mathematics after graduation.
Benvin Lozada
I am a sophomore double-majoring in Mathematics and Economics. I am interested in mathematical finance and statistical analysis, and after I graduate, I plan to attend a graduate program to obtain a Ph.D. in Economics.
Lauren Mickelson
I'm studying Mathematics and will be a senior in the Fall. I enjoy learning how Mathematics relates to the world as well as tutoring other students in the subject. I like to run, hike, and travel in my free time.
Cassandra Schultz
I am working toward earning a bachelor's degree in Mathematics. I am highly enthusiastic about becoming a junior high school math teacher in my near future. I am so grateful for the opportunity to attend the University of Utah, and I thank all those who support me.

I am graduating this spring with a bachelor's degrees in Mathematics Teaching, and Family, Community, and Human Development. I am exceedingly passionate about math education and have a particular desire to use equitable and developmentally appropriate teaching practices in my future classroom at Granger High School. I have a strong belief that excellent education can increase confidence in individuals and give them the tools to change the world for the better. I am excited to use my undergraduate degrees from the University of Utah and experience as an assistant director of a math learning center to become a secondary teacher that supports my students in gaining a solid sense of self-worth and an appreciation for the beauty of mathematics.
Mackenzie McLean
Next year I will be pursuing a Ph.D. in math, focusing on topology. In my time at the U, I've had incredible experiences researching with UCAIR and working as an ambassador for the college of science. Ultimately, my goal is to be a professor and help new students enjoy math.
Clayton Allard
I am a mathematics major with a statistics emphasis and a computer science minor. I am involved in tutoring at the math tutoring center, grading, and am member of Pi Mu Epsilon. My interests mostly lie in probability. This summer, I am participating in an 8-week REU program in Connecticut (online) about Markov Chains.
