Association for Women in Mathematics

Our student chapter of the AWM organizes a variety of events and programs aimed at building community among undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and staff interested in mathematics.

Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics

The SIAM student chapter aims to unite students in all fields interested in applied mathematics.  They sponsor several social and academic events which foster interaction between students and professionals in industry.

Directed Reading Program

The DRP matches undergraduate students with graduate mentors to undertake independent reading projects throughout each semester.  The goal of the program is to give undergraduates an opportunity to study a topic in more detail and to increase interaction between undergraduate and graduate students in the department.

Undergraduate Student Advisory Committee

The USAC promotes communication and interaction among students, faculty, staff, and administrators.  It provides students with the opportunity to offer their voice and perspective at the department level.  The USAC works with other student organizations to build community among math students.

Pi Mu Epsilon

Pi Mu Epsilon is a national mathematics honors society who purpose is promotion of scholarly activity in mathematics among students in academic institutions.  The Utah Alpha Chapter was first established in 1960 and was revitalized in 1997.

Work at the Math Center

The Math Center hires students to work as tutors and graders.  Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, though hiring generally takes place before fall semester.

Learning Assistant Program

Learning Assistants are undergraduate students who, through the guidance of weekly preparation sessions and a pedagogy course, facilitate discussions among groups of students in a variety of classroom settings that encourage active engagement.

Undergraduate Research

Research experiences allow students to better understand published works, learn to collaborate, explore new interests, develop independent critical thinking skills, discover their passion for research, and continue on to graduate studies.
